Description
In summer of 2013 we were referred a project by a colleague and told, “It probably won’t be that interesting or glamorous.” Glamor is in the eye of the beholder, because it turned out to be one of the more interesting and challenging creative exercises we’ve ever worked on.
Dave Veldman, of Veldman Morgan Commercial, owns the historic Daniels and Fisher Warehouse No. 2 building at 1422 Delgany in downtown Denver. After the construction of multi-story condo developments on all sides of the property, the owner was left with a postage stamp of a ‘ back yard.’ He asked for a space that would become an amenity for tenants. Arrow B solved a number of code and egress challenges, while creating a gathering space that reflects the existing industrial detail of the building.
The need for mechanical unit screens created a unique design opportunity to incorporate vintage advertisements reflecting the building’s original use: a warehouse for the Daniels and Fisher Department Store. These contemporary “ghost signs” were screen-printed on perforated metal panels.
